Between five seconds
The earth shakes
A baby is born
My belly rumbles

Between five seconds
Their yawn begins to invite flies
Someone’s laundry buzzes dry
A riot begins

Between five seconds
There is waiting
And mating
And sunrise dissipating

Between five seconds
A start starts
There’s a middle
An end ends
