Calendar Drawing (2022-ongoing) is Rice’s method of tracking time with scratching and mark making. It is reflecting and processing. Phrases from their diaristic writing practice make appearances, and they invite witnesses to fill in the gaps—the beginnings and ends. The images are sourced from the artist’s personally archived 33 mm, iPhone, and point and shoot photographs. The type becomes a part of the composition, creating form while simultaneously describing it.
