Found Houses (2016) is a series addressing space, place, and the people who inhabit them. Rice utilized discarded wood and house paint found while walking around the Southside neighborhood in Birmingham, Alabama. Some of the paintings’ forms mimic the homes in the area, while others contain elements of the houses within them. Each title belongs to a part of a story written while collecting materials.

Two of the paintings incorporate collaborative line drawing from the artist Sara Hagale.
